World Challenge - Southern Morocco

In June 2013, 20 pupils and 2 members of staff, Miss Hamilton and Mr Mothersole, will take part in a World Challenge independent expedition to Southern Morrocco. The trip will include adventure travel, volunteer work, trekking as well as time for rest and relaxation.

There are usually 3 main phases to a World Challenge expedition.

The acclimatisation phase - A trek enables the team to adjust to the climate, culture, altitude and terrain of their destination and to practise working together. The team will also be trained in the essential bush craft skills to make the expedition as successful as possible.
The trekking phase- At least one main trek to physically challenge the team and builds team spirit.  A chance to put into practice some of the skills you learnt in the acclimatisation phase.
The rest and relaxation phase - Teams unwind after completing their trek and community work with activities like sight-seeing or simply relaxing.

In between now and then there will be lots of fundraising opportunities to help subsidise the trip for those taking part. Watch thsi space for details.

BACK TO THE FUTURE

This special event was held in September at Linwood High School.

The occasion, was specifically for the parents/carers of pupils in P7 and S1, and commenced with a presentation in The Street Area, showcasing some of our recent success stories at Linwood High School.

Thereafter it was group visits to a range of classroom activities, where the emphasis was on active involvement using Assessment is for Learning and Co-operative Learning strategies.  Parents were keen to participate and pupils were on hand to help demontsrate learning and teaching in action.

 ARTISTS DISPLAY THEIR MURAL

Pupils at Linwood High collabotated to produce a mural consisting of  45  separate sections  to display at the Church of Scotland National Youth Assembly at Stirling University.

T
he theme for this year was 'To Boldly Go ...' and as such the Linwood frieze was a positive affirmation against violence and gang culture

LINWOOD HIGH CREDIT UNION

CLEVER youngsters at Linwood High are queuing up to join a unique scheme which encourages them to save some cash for a rainy day.The aim of the project is to encourage pupils to make a weekly deposit, in the hope that  this will help them build up the saving habit.

Under the umbrella of Renfrewshire-Wide Credit Union (RWCU) over 1,000 pupils across the Paisley area are already signed up to the credit unions in schools. We are hoping pupils in Linwood will do the same.

It’s not about getting kids to save huge amounts or asking them to come  put in all of their pocket money. It’s more about just building the habit of putting something away, no matter how big or small the sum is.As well as building up savings, the project also teaches numeracy and literacy skills and gives them an insight into marketing. It’s a real world experience.

All it takes is £1 to open an account with the Linwood High Credit Union. Should you be interested then see Mrs O'Tierney on a Tuesday at lunchtime in the Street Area.
