Houston, B789 Barrochan Road – end of Phase 1
Our project is progressing well. Phase two will now begin one week ahead of schedule on Monday, 3 October. We're continuing emergency repairs to upgrade our gas network in the Barrochan Road area of Houston. Our urgent and essential work will ensure your community receives a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come. This project will cause significant disruption, so please plan ahead and leave extra time for journeys. In agreement with Renfrewshire Council, our project is being carried out in three phases which began Tuesday 20 September. We originally anticipated a duration of 12 weeks, however our engineers have completed phase one ahead of schedule, the total duration will now be approximately 11 weeks. The B789 Barrochan Road will be closed both ways during the first eight weeks of our project. For the final three weeks, we'll reopen Barrochan Road under 2/3-way temporary traffic lights. You can see a full description of all our phases below. Phase 1 – approximately two weeks – COMPLETE This phase began on Tuesday, 20 September and was completed one week ahead of schedule reducing its duration to two weeks. Phase 2 – approximately three weeks From Monday 3 October, we will close a section of B789 Barrochan Road from its junction around 50 metres south of its junction with Magnus Road, to 20 metres south of the River Inn car park entrance. During this time the diversion route will be from Deafhillock Roundabout to the A761 Bridge of Weir Road and on to the B790 Houston Road. Phase 3 – approximately six weeks From Monday 31 October, we will be closing the section of the B789 Barrochan Road between Deafhillock roundabout, to around 50 metres south of Magnus Road for approximately three weeks. During this time the diversion route will be from Deafhillock roundabout to the A761 Bridge of Weir Road and on to the B790 Houston Road. The final three weeks we'll reopen Barrochan Road under 2/3-way temporary traffic lights. All businesses in the area will be open as normal during our work. Any small business affected by these works, can find out more about compensation here. Pedestrian access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout our project. The Project Manager will also be holding a weekly clinic to answer any question local residents have in the Carrick Community Centre every Friday, from 12 noon until 1pm. We know this is a busy route and understand that it will have a significant impact on residents, motorists and businesses, so our engineers will be working extended hours, including on weekends, to complete our project as quickly and safely as possible. We’re also in discussions with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) and McGill's Bus Services about the potential of alternative bus services during the road closure in phases two and three. We’re committed to upgrading our network to ensure we continue to keep homes and businesses safe and warm long into the future. We'll provide regular updates on completion of every phase. A new youth health and wellbeing service is being launched by @RenfrewshireHSCP. Young people aged 12-17 or S1-S6 can drop-in and speak to health professionals about anything from emotional health and wellbeing, mental health concerns, drugs and alcohol, healthy eating, sexual health and menstrual cycles. There will also be free condoms and menstrual products available.
“Well done to our new S1/2 Girls Football team who were competing at the Renfrewshire Girls Football League at Renfrew Leisure Centre on Wednesday. Great effort and attitude shown by all the girls who took part and looking forward to the next one in October. Thank you to our former pupil Adam Holley for coaching the girls on the day”.
Juna N Joey visited Linwood High School on a nationwide tour. Our pupils were treated to a brilliant performance from the country duo as they discussed the importance of mental health and positive relationships with our young people.

Today, as part of Pupil Vision Week, we are announcing our new school values. Five simple words which sum up who we are and what we believe in. These values came from you and from us. We spoke to pupils in every year group and all the staff, and when we looked at all the responses, these were the words that shone through for everyone. We hope that we can all value the same things and place our efforts on being true to our values, true to our school and true to ourselves.
